A simple opportunity to inspire 70 young artists in Bengaluru

At St. Anne’s Nursery School in Bengaluru, around 70 children between Pre-Nursery, Lower Kindergarten (LKG) and Upper Kindergarten (UKG) are learning the foundations that shape how they see the world: language, numbers, social confidence, attention and curiosity.

This new project is small on paper and powerful in practice: give each child a basic art goodie bag, organise one guided creative drawing session at the school, and document the activity through photos, children’s drawings and a short project story afterwards.

The goal is not to donate something expensive. The goal is to create a moment the children can feel: “This is mine. I can make something with it.” That feeling is often where confidence starts.

How the idea started

Over the last weeks, we worked with a local family and St. Anne’s Nursery School, where we recently completed our first education support project by funding school tuition fees for one child from a low-income family.

During a home visit, we brought a few small gifts for the children, including colouring materials. One child sat down with a colouring book and became completely absorbed. For almost an hour, he was focused, calm, creative and visibly proud of each finished page.

That was the spark. It reminded me of my own childhood in Germany — the first pencils, colouring books and creative school activities that helped me think visually, build things with my hands and later approach problems in a more creative, out-of-the-box way. A simple art material can become more than a product. For a child, it can become permission to imagine.

Why art supplies matter

Early art activities are not just entertainment. Research in early childhood education consistently links drawing, colouring and hands-on creative work with fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, visual thinking, confidence and emotional expression. For young children, these are not “extra” skills — they support learning readiness.

When a child chooses colours, fills a shape, tries again after a mistake and proudly shows the result, they practise attention, decision-making and self-belief. These are small actions, but repeated often enough, they become a way of thinking.

The school context

St. Anne’s Nursery School in Bengaluru currently teaches approximately 70 children across Pre-Nursery, LKG and UKG. The school provides early education in a structured, caring environment, serving families for whom even modest education-related costs can create pressure.

Our first project with the school focused on continuity of education for one child. This next project expands the circle: one creative experience for the whole kindergarten community.

What the sponsor makes possible

A sponsor would fund simple art supply goodie bags for around 70 children and help make one documented classroom creativity session possible. From our side, we will coordinate with the school, organise the activity and provide documentation afterwards.

The basic goodie bag is calculated with current approximate retail ranges in India. Prices vary by brand, pack size and availability, so we show a minimum, balanced and higher-range estimate.

• Minimum basic bag: ₹60 + ₹20 + ₹99 + ₹75 = ₹254 per child

• Balanced estimate: ₹110 + ₹60 + ₹149 + ₹112 = ₹431 per child

A practical funding target for a strong basic implementation is therefore around ₹30,000–₹43,000, depending on the final quality and quantity of materials selected.

For the children, it is a gift. For the sponsor, it is a meaningful and affordable way to create a spark. And sometimes, a spark is exactly what a child needs to begin seeing themselves as creative.
